Mold Testing

At Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), the health and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities. We are committed to providing learning environments that are not only academically motivating, but also physically safe and healthy.

Our Approach to Mold Testing and Remediation

  • Regular Inspections: ACPS conducts routine visual inspections of classrooms, hallways, and other school spaces. If any signs of moisture or suspected mold are identified, we take immediate action.
  • Professional Testing and Analysis: When concerns arise, we partner with qualified environmental experts to perform thorough testing and air quality assessments. These specialists use industry-standard methods to identify the presence and type of mold, ensuring we have accurate information to guide our next steps.
  • Clear Communication: As soon as test results are received, we share the information with our school communities. Whether the results show that conditions are within safe ranges or that remediation is necessary, we believe in transparency and keeping families and staff informed.
  • Safe and Effective Remediation: If testing confirms that mold is present, we follow all recommended health and safety guidelines to address the issue. This may include relocating classes temporarily, removing affected materials, and utilizing professional cleaning and dehumidification equipment to restore spaces to a healthy state.
  • Post-Clearance Testing: Once remediation is complete, we conduct additional testing to ensure that mold levels are within acceptable standards. We do not reopen affected classrooms or areas until independent experts verify that the spaces are safe for occupancy.
  • Ongoing Monitoring: After an issue is resolved, we continue to monitor for potential moisture or mold-related concerns. Regular follow-ups help prevent future problems and maintain a healthy environment.

Empowering Families and Staff with Information
We understand that hearing about mold can be concerning. Our goal is to provide you with timely and accurate information. We will continue to update you about any mold-related issues and our progress in addressing them. We encourage families and staff to reach out if they have questions or concerns. By working together and staying informed, we can ensure that every ACPS school remains a place where students can learn, grow, and thrive in a healthy, safe environment.
