Faculty and Staff Meals
The ACPS school nutrition program is federally funded by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Adult meals do not qualify for federal reimbursement under this provision. As such, all school faculty and staff are required to pay for breakfast and lunch according to USDA Policy FNS INSTRUCTION 782-5 REV. 1. The cost for an adult meal is $4.50.
Breakfasts and lunches served to teachers, administrators, custodians and other adults must be priced so that the adult payment in combination with any per-lunch revenues from other source designated specifically for the support of adult meals (such as state or local fringe benefit or payroll funds, or funding from voluntary agencies) is sufficient to cover the overall cost of the lunch.
While we appreciate the hard work and dedication that school staff contribute to our school community, the provision of free school meals is not offered according to federal policy. Our priority is to ensure students receive nutritious and balanced meals during their time at school and that federal funding is dedicated to student nutrition needs. As such, the School Nutrition budget is solely allocated to cover costs associated with providing meals to students.
We value the commitment of our school staff and recognize the importance of a supportive and well-nourished environment for both students and staff alike. However, we must adhere to the established federal mandates.
Any staff member who would like to participate in our meal program may do so by using their account. Outlined below you will find instructions for creating your School Cafe account if you do not already have one. This will allow you to place money on your account, set perimeters, and enroll in platform notifications such as low balance reminders, etc.
In addition, If at any time you leave the district or would like to request a refund on your account, you may do so by going to the SNS web page and selecting the “refund” tab under meals and prepayment tab or directly through School Cafe.
