VA Sun Bucks
***Note*** The Virginia SUN Bucks program will return in 2026. If you received Virginia SUN Bucks in 2025, please hold onto your card. If eligible in 2026, you can use that card again. If you've misplaced or discarded your card, we will share information soon on how to request a replacement.
Attention parents and guardians! Your household may be automatically eligible to receive $120 per qualifying school-aged child to buy groceries through Virginia SUN Bucks, a new food benefit program.
Your child is automatically enrolled in Virginia SUN Bucks if they:
- Receive SNAP or TANF benefits or participate in an income-eligible Medical Assistance (such as Medicaid) program.
- Received free or reduced-price school meals at school during the 2024-2025 school year based on a submitted and approved application.
Unfortunately, households of students who attended a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) during SY25-26 will need to apply for SUN Bucks as they are not automatically eligible UNLESS they were approved based on Direct Certification (SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, Homeless, or Foster status) eligibility.

Updates will include eligibility information, application instructions (if required), and details on when SUN Bucks will be issued. Families should refrain from contacting schools or the Office of School Nutrition Services as neither are responsible for the distribution of SUN Bucks.
