The Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team is responsible for developing programs and strategies to support the meaningful division-wide engagement of families and community stakeholders. At the core of our work is expanding the capacity of schools, community-based organizations and families to work together to create family-school partnerships that support a students’ academic success and social emotional development.
Workshops & Events for Families
Offering a range of training series designed to support ACPS families:
- English Literacy for Parents
A 16-week (Fall-Spring) course to help develop basic English literacy skills offered in Fall and Spring - Computer Literacy for Parents
10-session course focused on basic computer skills aligned with supporting student learning - Parent Support Groups
A year-long weekly support groups facilitated in English and Spanish by a certified trainer - Parent Cafés
Structured, small group conversations (called Cafés) designed to facilitate transformation and healing within families, build community, develop peer-to-peer relationships, and engage parents as partners in the programs that serve them. - Math/Literacy/Science
A 4-week training series in selected subject area that provides extended learning opportunities to students while simultaneously training parent/guardians in strategies to support learning at home - Science Nights
Interactive K-12 science exploration events held twice a year
Volunteer
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) encourages and welcomes volunteers in our schools. We invite parents, families, community members, and our many partners to get involved and support students throughout the year.
Our volunteer activities vary from school to school. Volunteers can get involved and make a difference by helping with a wide variety of activities.
