School Support for Afghan Students (SSAS)

U.S. Congress authorized select groups of Afghan citizens or nationals to receive these benefits:

• Afghan citizens or nationals paroled into the U.S. between July 31, 2021, and September 30, 2023 (including unaccompanied minors).
• Spouses or children of the above group, paroled into the U.S. after September 30, 2023.
• Parents or legal guardians of unaccompanied Afghan children, paroled into the U.S. after September 30, 2023.
• Other eligible Afghan populations (e.g., refugees, asylees) whose eligibility date is on or after July 31, 2021.

The School Support for Afghan Students (SSAS) program is being funded by the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS). Funds are distributed through the Office of New Americans (ONA) and the program receives federal funding from the Office of Refugee Resettlement.

The program’s services are grant-funded through September 2026.
