ACPS Volunteer Application and Approval Timeline

The ACPS timeline for volunteer approval is typically 7-10 business days. Please expect delays when there is a surge of applications at the beginning of the school year and through the fall.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering! Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) encourages and welcomes volunteers in our schools. We invite parents, families, community members and our many partners to get involved and support students throughout the school year.

Our volunteer activities vary from school to school. Volunteers can get involved and make a difference by helping with a range of activities.

If after reading the information below in its entirety you have any questions, please contact us at volunteer@acps.k12.va.us or 571-547-1697.

Interested in Volunteering with Us?

To ensure the safety of our students, staff, and visitors, there are some steps you must complete before beginning your service. Please read the steps and FAQs below carefully.

Note: If you are a partner program, please refrain from completing test applications or using the system to submit applications as examples for fellow volunteers. Every application submitted to ACPS automatically leads to a criminal background check which is billed to the school division. Thanks in advance!

ACPS Volunteer Appreciation

ACPS deeply appreciates all of our school volunteers who support our students and is proud to recognize one outstanding volunteer annually from each of our 18 schools. School leaders and staff nominate a volunteer to be honored for going above and beyond expectations in making a difference for students at their school. Each spring, ACPS joins Volunteer Alexandria to honor these school volunteers at a community recognition event for volunteer service in the City of Alexandria.

A list of past honorees is available here.

Thank you to all of our school volunteers for your contributions to our community!
