Building Bonds Beyond the School: Webinars for Families
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) families are encouraged to join us for the “Building Bonds Beyond the School” webinar series. Presented by the ACPS Department of Student Services and Equity, the series aims to create a collaborative environment where families can learn valuable information and receive educational resources to enhance the experiences and outcomes for our students and their families.
A new topic will be the focal point each month from November 2024 to May 2025.
January 15, 2025: Pathways to Success – Strategies for College and Career Readiness
This webinar offers valuable tools and insights to help ACPS students and families navigate academic and career preparation. Learn practical tips for goal-setting, college planning, skill development, and more from experienced professionals.
November 20, 2024: Health Services & Substance Use Prevention
The first webinar was designed to educate our families on how our school nurses support student wellness and provide health resources, as well as explore strategies to prevent substance use and help build safer, stronger communities.
December 18, 2024: DESSA and Hazel Telehealth Services
This session focuses on social-emotional supports available for ACPS students, specifically the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA) and the telehealth service for students, Hazel Health.
The DESSA-mini tool helps evaluate how frequently a student has displayed specific life skills over the past month. Through Hazel Health, virtual therapy appointments are made available for students, so they can speak with a licensed therapist at no cost to families.
