School Counseling

Providing support to maximize all student potential and academic achievement.Professional School Counselors are licensed professionals who are trained to develop and deliver a comprehensive school counseling program. The American School Counseling Association’s (ASCA) National Model guides school counselors in the development of a program that supports the academic growth, social and emotional development, and college and career readiness of all students.

School counselors are advocates who provide support to maximize all students' potential and academic achievement. In partnership with educators, families, and the community, school counselors establish a culture of high expectations where students are empowered to reach their potential while utilizing their unique abilities and interests.

For further information on the counseling program, counseling materials, or procedures by which a parent may limit a student's participation in the counseling program, please contact the school counselor in your child's school.

The Role of the School Counselor

School Counselors are an integral part of the overall education program. Counselors support the academic, social-emotional and personal growth of all students through individual and small-group sessions, and classroom instruction. School counselors help all students:

  • Apply academic achievement strategies
  • Manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills
  • Plan for postsecondary options
