School Nurses and Health Services

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is fortunate to have a registered nurse in every school. These experienced healthcare professionals are available during the entire school day to support the health needs of students. School nurses also serve as a bridge between healthcare providers, families, and schools, and actively advocate, collaborate, and provide care coordination to ensure that students have access to the health supports and care needed to be successful and reach their maximum potential.

ACPS aligns its school nursing practice to the National Association of School Nurses’ (NASN) Framework for 21st Century School Nursing Practice. Our school health program also has several special projects which are positively impacting the health of our school community, including the provision of oral health care, school-based health services, and vision services.
