Office of English Learner Services

ACPS provides a program of language instruction so that students meet the same challenging academic content and student achievement standards that all students are expected to meet while they develop English language proficiency.

Overview

Cultural and linguistic diversity is one of our greatest strengths in Alexandria City Public Schools.
We have over 8,500 multilingual learner students, who are culturally and linguistically diverse
with a home language other than English, representing approximately 55% of all students in
ACPS. Approximately 5,900 of our multilingual learner students qualify for English learner
services. Our school division is committed to ensuring high-quality English Learner services
so that students can simultaneously learn English and achieve academic success.
