Digital Citizenship

ACPS is recognized by Common Sense Education as a division "committed to creating a culture of digital learning and citizenship". Students in ACPS receive digital citizenship instruction using resources from Common Sense Education's Digital Citizenship Curriculum. These age-appropriate resources cover a wide variety of topics, including Internet safety, information literacy, digital communication, and cyberbullying.

In ACPS, we promote efforts to enable students to be healthy and ready to learn. This includes safe, ethical, and respectful behaviors when interacting with peers and adults in digital environments. We aim for all students to understand the rights, roles, and responsibilities of being digital citizens.

How is digital citizenship and AI literacy taught in schools?

ACPS utilizes a framework for educators to integrate five essential strands of Digital Citizenship with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL), VA Computer Science Standards, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for students, and emerging Artificial Intelligence in education guidelines. Our mission is to empower students to navigate technology with confidence and character, moving learners from passive consumption to active digital leadership. These pillars and the associated roadmap provide teachers support when equipping students with the necessary skills for our ever evolving digital landscape, focusing on human empathy, academic integrity, and skeptical inquiry.
