  • This service consists of screening, assessment, clinical consultation with professionals, and support with referral/linkage to specialized services from external providers.

Screening is completed using the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI) tool.  The ACPS Substance Abuse prevention and Educational Intervention service utilizes the SASSI as the preferred instrument to screen for substance abuse problems. The SASSI institutedeveloped the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI), which is a brief, easily administered psychological questionnaire.  This questionnaire is available in both adult and adolescent versions, as well in versions for diverse cultures, including English LangusgeLearners, those with disabilities & vocational rehabilitation.  As part of the assessment the student responds to a SASSI questionnaire. As a result, the student’s responses provide the information to estimate the probability to have a substance abuse disorder. The SASSI can identify people who may have a Substance Use Disorder with a high degree of accuracy – even when someone is reluctant to self-disclose.

Assessment is completed using the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria assessment.

The ACPS Substance Abuse Prevention and Educational Intervention Services utilizes TheAmerican Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) for in depth SA assessment. ASAM utlizes a 6 dimension assessment criterion.  The ASAM provided feedback to students and parents about SA related problems and suggests levels of services that may be needed.

Both instruments include a face to face semi-structured interview and give parents suggestions about services that may best meet their child needs.  Results from the screening/assessment identifies if the student is: presenting with low/mild symptoms of SA related problem/disorder, moderate/medium symptoms of SA related problem/disorder, or severe/high symptoms of SA related problem/disorder.
