Principal - Rachael Dischner
Rachael Dischner is the principal of Ferdinand T. Day Elementary School. Dischner was previously an assistant principal at Randolph Elementary School in Arlington Public Schools and a special education coordinator for Child Find in Arlington before her move into elementary education. She began her career as a special education teacher in Ventura County, California.
Dischner has a master’s degree in educational leadership from George Mason University and a certificate in special education from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California. She also has multiple postgraduate professional licenses including Administration and Supervision Pre-K-12, Early Childhood Special Education, Emotional Disturbance K-12, Intellectual Disabilities K-12, and Specific Learning Disabilities K-12.
Assistant Principal - B.J. Ketchem
B.J. Ketchem is originally from Butler, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in 2000, he began his career with Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). Mr. Ketchem holds a Bachelor of Science in Education (Slippery Rock University) and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership (George Mason University). The last two years he has served as Assistant Principal at Patrick Henry Elementary School. During his career in ACPS he has been an elementary classroom teacher, a Title I coach, a mathematics coach, and a varsity athletic coach. He has also worked for the District of Columbia Public Schools as a Vice Principal.
