Sara Bycura is joining our team at John Adams Elementary School. This is her fifth year teaching. Ms. Bycura has earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. She has also earned a Master’s of Education in International Education with a Concentration in Technology Education.
Ms. Bycura has previously taught in Mexico and Turkey and loves learning about new cultures and sharing what she has learned with her students. She believes in a student’s overall well-being and puts an emphasis on students' physical and mental health.
In her free time, Ms. Bycura enjoys exploring new places and being outside as much as possible.
Eunice Gerónimo is joining our team at John Adams Elementary School. She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Anthropology and Sociology at Lafayette College in May 2019. She is currently taking licensure courses at the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University.
Ms. Gerónimo believes in the power of education, specifically, a quality education. This includes having a teacher who not only cares about what their students are learning but how students are feeling. A school, more importantly, a classroom should be a safe space where all students can learn and grow.
During her free time, Ms. Gerónimo loves to cook, dance, and explore her home city, DC or other cities by traveling.
Kourtney Keen has been teaching Kindergarten since 2001 at John Adams Elementary. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from Western Kentucky University and a Master’s of Arts in Elementary Education with a focus in Early Childhood from Ball State University. She is Nationally Board Certified in Early Childhood and was selected asTeacher of the Year for John Adams in the 2018-19 school year.
She believes in the importance of a strong foundation in the early years of a school and enjoys seeing the growth of her students.
Ms. Keen enjoys travelling to new places during school breaks.
Andrea Lewis has been teaching Kindergarten at John Adams Elementary since 2010. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and an Education Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and enjoys seeing her students learn through exploring.
Her philosophy is “teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning.”
Originally from North Carolina, Ms. Lewis loves reading and shopping during her free time.
Andrea Ridley has been teaching at John Adams Elementary since 2012. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a Concentration in Social Work, a Minor in Art, and a Master’s Degree of Arts in Elementary Education.
Mrs. Ridley firmly believes in her favorite quote, “All children are gifts, however, some open their presents later than others.'' She has a passion for teaching and loves working with children.
Mrs. Ridley loves spending her free time with her family, traveling, baking, and reading.
María José Spender
María José Spender has been teaching since 2011 and became a Kindergarten Dual Language teacher at John Adams in 2013. She attended New Jersey City University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Spanish Education. She has also earned her Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction and an ESOL endorsement from George Mason University.
Ms. Spender enjoys witnessing her student’s growth both academically and socially as they learn a different language while being immersed in a dual language environment.
She loves spending time with her family, dogs, cooking and traveling.
