Ginja Canton, Principal

Ginja Canton began her teaching career in South Florida. She taught English Language in a public dual language program, which featured an English-Spanish two-way immersion approach to instruction. Canton's previous roles include Title I School Improvement Coach and Coordinator for ACPS and assistant principal at Mount Vernon Community School

Canton has a Master of Education Leadership from George Mason University.

Mark L. Luther, Assistant Principal (Grades K, 1, and 2)

Mr. Luther is beginning his third year as an assistant principal at John Adams Elementary School. Before joining the JAES administrative team, he served fifteen years in Fairfax County as an assistant principal at South County Secondary and Lee High Schools. Prior to his time in Fairfax County, Luther taught Social Studies at George Washington Middle School here in Alexandria from 2000 to 2005.

In the eleven years before coming to Northern Virginia, Mr. Luther taught abroad in Australia, Costa Rica and Argentina. He hopes to use his bilingual skills (English/Spanish) at John Adams Elementary to support students and families.

He is very excited about the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year and looks forward to working with the students, parents, and teachers from Grades K-2!

Rachel Otte, Assistant Principal (Grades 3, 4, and 5)

Rachel Otte has been a part of the John Adams' administrative team since August 2017.  She began her time in ACPS as a teacher at Matthew Maury Elementary, where she later transitioned into the role of Data Interventionist and School Testing Coordinator. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. 

Otte is a passionate educator with a strong commitment to individualized instruction and continuous professional growth. She understands the importance of student-based decision making, developing a positive school culture, and the benefit of involving stakeholders in a various aspects of the school.

Originally from Florida, Otte enjoys reading, exercising and exploring the outdoors in her free time.
