Program Transfers
Families who desire to opt in to dual language must apply for a Program Transfer. The dual language programs are:
- Mount Vernon Community School (MVCS)
- Kindergarten students at Jefferson-Houston, Charles Barrett, Cora Kelly, Douglas MacArthur, George Mason, Lyles Crouch, and Naomi L Brooks may apply to opt into the MVCS Dual Language Program.
- John Adams Elementary School (JAES)
- Kindergarten students at Patrick Henry, Ferdinand T Day, James K Polk, John Adams, Samuel Tucker and William Ramsay may apply to opt into the JA Dual Language Program.
Program options are based on capacity at these schools.
Families can also opt-out of Mount Vernon Community School. Families may not opt-out of John Adams Elementary School due to the availability of English language instruction. Families may not opt-out of Jefferson-Houston School at K-5, but may opt-out of Jefferson-Houston at middle school for grades 6 through 8.
Families who opt-out of Mount Vernon Community School will be placed in another school based on capacity and proximity to the student's home.

The following regulations apply to the assignment of students through the administrative transfer process to schools outside their assigned school attendance area.
