Leadership Team

PreeAnn Johnson is serving as the acting head of school at Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School, effective April 11, 2024. Johnson recognizes the value of establishing relationships with students, teachers and parents to fulfill the mission set forth by the Alexandria City Public Schools’ (ACPS) leadership team. 

Johnson has served the students and families of ACPS since 1985 and continues to work for  the school division following her retirement. Most recently, Johnson served as the transition administrator at Alexandria City High School - King Street Campus. She is the retired principal from James K. Polk Elementary School. She has also been an assistant principal within the school division, special education coordinator and teacher.

Johnson has a Bachelor of Science in human development from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She earned a Master of Education at American University in Washington, DC, specializing in students with emotional disabilities.

Ms. Brown-Dunn has been at ACPS for the last 7.5 years and has served as a classroom teacher, an Equity Advisory Committee member, and a Reading Interventionist, PreK - 8th grade. She has been in the field of education for 28 years. Ms. Brown-Dunn earned her B.A. in English with a minor in History from Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama, a Masters of Education in Educational Supervision and Administration Prekindergarten - 12th Grade from Regent University, and is currently completing an M.Ed with an endorsement as a Reading Specialist from Regent University. As the Dean of Students, her main goal is to cultivate a culturally responsive, restorative, and safe environment for students, their families, teachers, and staff.

Julia Neufer is the acting academic principal at Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School, effective April 11, 2024. Neufer strives to maximize her expertise as a teacher, instructional coach, professional developer, curriculum developer and school leader in order to provide and promote a state-of-the-art curriculum and superior instructional delivery for the success of all students.

Serving as an educator for 18 years, Neufer most recently was the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) STEM coordinator and elementary math instructional specialist. She first joined ACPS in August of 2013 as a math instructional specialist at John Adams Elementary School. Neufer then took on the role of math instructional specialist and curriculum developer for the school division.

Neufer earned an associate degree in arts and in science at Northwestern Michigan College and a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature at Grand Valley State University. She has a Master of education in mathematics leadership from Regent University and a Master of education leadership from George Mason University.
