Answers to frequently asked questions about Adult Learning Center Programs

How much do classes cost?

All fees for Adult Learning Center (ALC) programs are based on individual classes per quarter/semester. Each session lasts for approximately three months.

Can you take a pre-GED test?

Yes. The pre-GED test is also known as the "GED Ready™: The Official Practice Test". Contact the Adult Learning Center at 703-619-8027 or visit www.GED.com to find tools, free practice test questions, and GED Ready™: The Official Practice Test.

Do you still offer a nursing program?

No, the Licensed Practical Nursing Program has been phased out. Please refer to the Workforce Development webpage for other career development programs.

Do you have a rolling admission?

We only offer rolling admissions for the Adult High School Diploma and the Advance Day Virtual GED programs.

Can I take the GED online? What about the GED Prep Course?

All official GED Testing is conducted online (since 2014). We do not currently offer an online prep course.

How do I get my GED transcripts and scores? 

Go to www.GED.com and scroll to the bottom of the page. In the "Take Action" column, click the link to "Request a transcript". You will need to create an account with GED Testing Services to complete the process and request a transcript.

What should I bring for the GED, Adult High School, or EL class registration?

Please bring your government issued ID (drivers license, photo id card or passport), proof of Alexandria residency, and a negative Tuberculosis test results (within one year of registration date). Non-Alexandria residents pay a higher fee.

How do I register for classes?

If you are interested in daytime classes (8:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) visit the Braddock Place Campus at 1340 Braddock Place, 7th Floor, Alexandria, VA 22314.

If you are interested in evening classes (6:00 - 9:00 p.m.) visit the Alexandria City High School Campus Main Office at 3330 King St., Alexandria, VA 22302

What time do classes start when there is a delayed opening due to bad weather?

All classes regularly scheduled for 8:45-10:45 a.m. will start at 9:30 a.m. All remaining classes will be held as regularly scheduled. If after school activities are canceled, evening classes are also canceled.

Can my 16 or 17 year old come to the GED program if they have not yet completed high school?

Students under 18 years old must provide documentation on school letterhead that states a school district has released them from compulsory education. No court order documents or school transcripts will be accepted. The student may be eligible to enter the ISAEP program if referred by their school counselor. Please see the ISAEP Program webpage for more information.

How long does the entire GED program take to complete?

The GED program is individually based. Students, who attend classes regularly and study, advance more quickly through the program.
