Sure, you read school newsletters, ACPS Express, and articles in local media about important issues facing our schools. You are informed and invested in our schools and community. Now, are you ready to channel that interest and take your involvement to a new level? Then join a School Board Advisory Committee. There are a variety of committees that need invested community members like you to fulfill their goals.

The process is easy:

  1. See the list below for a topic that strikes a chord with you.
  2. Attend a meeting of the committee in which you are interested and meet the committee chair and its members.
  3. Submit an application online if you find a committee that is a good fit.

Budget Advisory Committee (BAC)

BAC advises and supports the School Board by making recommendations on policies and practices related to the operating budget and the financial management of the school system, and on budget priorities before the Board. It also advises the School Board on the degree to which the budget supports best fiscal practices and the Board’s priorities.

Athletic Hall of Fame Advisory Committee (AHoF)

Each year, the School Board honors a select number of graduates, coaches and contributors with induction into the ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame. This committee recommends inductees nominated by the public.

Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee (CTE)

The CTE Advisory Committee advises the School Board on current job needs and the relevancy of CTE programs, and assists in developing, implementing and evaluating the CTE plan. Members include students, teachers, parents and representatives from business, industry and labor.

School Health Advisory Board (SHAB)

SHAB assists with developing health policy in the school division and evaluating of the status of school health, health education, mental health, substance abuse, violence prevention, the school environment and health services. Members include parents, students, health professionals, educators and others.

Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)

SEAC provides recommendations to the School Board on support for students with disabilities and improves sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of students with disabilities. A majority of SEAC members are parents of children with disabilities or individuals with disabilities.

Talented and Gifted Advisory Committee (TAGAC)

TAGAC advises the School Board of the educational needs of gifted students, while striving to reflect the ethnic and geographical composition of the school division. TAGAC reviews the plan for the education of gifted students annually and determines the extent to which the plan for the previous year was implemented.
