Student Representatives
The opinions and concerns of the students in Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) are important to the Alexandria City School Board. Including Student Representatives as advisors to the Board creates a direct link between ACPS students and the elected body that governs them. These positions provide students the opportunity to serve their community and to gain a more thorough understanding of city and school governance and its role in creating an effective learning environment for every child in Alexandria.

How to Apply for a High School Student Representative Position for 2024-25
DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED: Wednesday, May 22, 2024
Student Representatives consist of two at-large positions from Alexandria City High School and one International Academy position. They serve annual terms from July 1 through June 30 of the school year of their appointment.
Student Representatives attend all regular open board meetings and may choose to attend work sessions and/or special called meetings. They do not attend closed meetings. With the exception of prior approved absences, Student Representatives are required to attend at least 75% of regular School Board Meetings either in person or virtually.
As is feasible, Student Representatives sit at the dais during Board Meetings and they present a report on behalf of all of the students in the Division. Although they may participate fully in agenda item discussions, Student Representatives do not vote on any issue. As representatives of the student body, they are given the opportunity to voice their opinions and those of the student body they represent on any and all issues brought before the Board, except as precluded by law or policy. Additionally, Student Representatives may at times be offered the opportunity to participate in events and discussions as representatives of the Division.
To apply for the 2024-2025 school year, an applicant must be a rising junior or senior at Alexandria City High School (ACHS). The International Academy Student Representative must be a rising junior or senior from the International Academy at ACHS. All applications are reviewed by a Student Representative Selection Committee (SRSC), which will select five most qualified at-large applicants and two most qualified International Academy applications. These finalists are submitted to the Superintendent for review before forwarding to the School Board. The Board Chair and Vice Chair (or designees) will conduct in-person interviews and recommend the best qualified applicants for full Board approval.
Applications are due by Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
