How to Apply for the Student Representative Position for 2023-24
DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO MAY 26, 2023
Each year, rising juniors and seniors may apply to serve an annual term from July through the following June. Representatives that serve during their junior year may reapply for a second term.
Student Representatives are required to attend at least 75% of regular School Board Meetings. The representatives sit at the dais during Board Meetings and present a report on behalf of all the students in the Division. They may participate fully in agenda item discussion, however, the Student Representatives do not vote on any issues. Student Representatives may choose to attend and participate in School Board Work Sessions or Special Called School Board Meetings, and have been asked to participate in events and discussions as representatives of the Division.
To apply for the 2023-24 school year, you must be a sophomore or junior at Alexandria City High School. All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee, which will select five finalists to submit to the Superintendent for review. The Board Chair and Vice Chair (or designees) will conduct in-person interviews with the top five candidates and recommend the two best qualified applicants for full Board approval.
Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023.
Before starting the online application, you will need to have on hand the following information:
- The date of a Regular School Board Meeting from 2022-23 of which you have watched the entire meeting video
- An electronic version of your resume in Word or PDF for uploading into the application that includes schools attended, academic information such as honors or AP courses taken, work experience, any awards or recognitions received, extracurricular activities, community/volunteer activities and work experience.
