January 30, 2020 - Evacuation due to smell of gas

Dear George Washington Middle School Parents and Guardians,

Today just before noon George Washington Middle School was evacuated due to a smell of gas. The Fire Department was called and cleared the building for re-entry shortly afterwards. All students and staff were safe and accounted for during the procedure.

The smell was caused by a rooftop heating unit that was installed in the summer and still requires some adjustments. We are working with the contractors who installed these new units to resolve some of the ongoing issues we have been experiencing with them since November. Washington Gas was called to inspect the lines and resolved that there was no gas issue.

You can find facility maintenance updates for George Washington on the GWMS Facility Maintenance Updates web page.

The safety of our students and staff is always a priority and we thank you for your patience as this is resolved.

Sincerely,

Jesse Mazur
Principal
