ACPS school buildings closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both the City of Alexandria and ACPS have had to revise their budgets due to the economic downturn resulting from the shut-down put in place to stop the spread of the virus. The building of a new Douglas MacArthur Elementary School will continue to be funded and will move forward according to the original schedule. ACPS staff anticipates being able to initiate relocating the school to it’s temporary swing space at the former Patrick Henry School on Taney Avenue earlier in June than originally planned. This, in turn, may allow early site and decommissioning work at the existing Douglas MacArthur to begin this summer instead of waiting until fall. So the COVID-19 school closures will help ACPS meet its aggressive schedule and project deadlines. Read more on the CIP FAQ page.
