Transformational Head of School Selected for Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School
Dear Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School parents, guardians and community members:
Today, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr. would like to share with you that he has selected Dr. John McCain as the Transformational Head of School for Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School.
Dr. McCain, who will start in the role on July 1, has previously served as an elementary and middle school principal, assistant principal and a support specialist for teachers, providing coaching to teachers to help them improve their academic outcomes.
He has also served as area superintendent of elementary schools, and Advisor for the Principal Leadership Academy at Highpoint University in North Carolina, where he facilitated training sessions to provide feedback around the recruitment and selection process of teachers.
Dr. McCain began his career in education as an elementary teacher of grades four and six in Mebane, North Carolina. He quickly moved to a position as assistant principal and served as a middle school principal in Roxboro, North Carolina from 2007 until 2011.
He moved back to elementary education as principal in 2011 in Durham, North Carolina where he eventually served as Area Superintendent of Elementary Schools. More recently he has worked in the private education sector as an education support specialist for a firm in North Carolina.
Dr. McCain holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a masters in supervision and administration of elementary education. His doctorate in educational leadership is from Highpoint University, North Carolina.
You will have the opportunity to meet Dr. McCain in July as soon as he comes on board with ACPS. We will provide an update on Dr. McCain’s transition plan next week.
