Summer School and Enrichment Programs

  • KINDERGARTEN PREP (K-PREP)

    Dates: August 14-18, 2017*
    Times: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Locations: Each elementary school except Samuel W. Tucker. 

    This program is for all incoming kindergarten students. Register at the school where your child will be attending kindergarten.

    *Mount Vernon Community School will have their K-Prep program during the first week of Summer Language Academy, starting July 10.

    MIDDLE SCHOOL PREP

    Dates: August 31, 2017
    Times: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Locations: Francis C. Hammond Middle School, George Washington Middle School, Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 School

    This program is for all rising sixth-grade students. Registration begins online in May. For more information contact your child's school. Breakfast and lunch are served for all students.

    EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR (ESY)

    Dates: July 10 - August 4, 2017
    Locations and Times:
    Jefferson-Houston School - PreK: 9-11 a.m. and K-5: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
    T.C. Williams High School, King Street Campus - Grades 6 through post-graduate: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Social Skills Class (Tues, Weds, Thurs): 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

    Breakfast and lunch are served for all students.

    Who may attend: students who are identified by their IEPs.

    EL SUMMER PROGRAM FOR GRADES K-8

    Dates: July 10 - August 4, 2017
    Locations and Times:
    Grades 1-5: John Adams Elementary School and Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Grades 6-8: Francis C. Hammond Middle School, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    NOTE: Rising sixth graders attend the fifth-grade program, and rising ninth graders attend eighth-grade program.

    Breakfast and lunch are served for all students.

    Who may attend: EL students at levels 1, 2, and 3 in grades K-8.
    Registration by invitation only.

    ALGEBRA BOOT CAMP

    Dates: July 10 - August 4, 2017
    Times: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Location: T.C. Williams High School, King Street Campus
    Who may attend: Middle school students who passed Algebra I but did not pass the Algebra I SOL.
    Contact your child's counselor for more information.
    Breakfast and lunch are served for all students.

    YOUNG SCHOLARS

    Dates: July 10-28, 2017
    Times: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Locations: Douglas MacArthur Elementary School, Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology, Francis C. Hammond Middle School

    SUMMER LANGUAGE ACADEMY

    Dates: July 10-28, 2017
    Rising Kindergarten: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    Rising Grades 1-5: 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
    Location: Mount Vernon Community School (MVCS)

    Who may attend: all rising kindergarten through fifth grade students from MVCS. Rising kindergarten through fifth grade dual language students from John Adams Elementary School (JAES).

    Cost:
    Kindergarten: week one is free. Weeks 2-3 cost $100 per child. Free/reduced price lunch eligible families pay $25 per child.
    Grades 1-5: $150 per child. Free/reduced price lunch eligible families pay $50 per family.
    Charges above apply to first two children per family. All children after two are free.
    Cost includes daily breakfast, lunch and transportation.

    SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

    Locations: Francis C. Hammond Middle School, Douglas MacArthur Elementary School and Matthew Maury Elementary School
    Who may attend: Students in grades 3-8, by invitation only.

    The ACPS Summer Enrichment Program is a free, exclusive experience that helps students in grades three through eight enhance their skills in reading, writing and mathematics. Students will engage in a range of hands-on learning experiences, including projects and visits to Alexandria and Washington, D.C. landmarks. Breakfast and lunch are served for all students.

    MUSIC CAMP

    Dates: July 24-28, 2017
    Times: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Location: Francis C. Hammond Middle School
    Who may attend: Rising 5th- through 9th -grade band and orchestra students

    ACPS Summer Camp is a program for selected rising fifth- through ninth-grade students who currently play an instrument or want to learn to play an instrument. Students are taught level-appropriate skills to improve their playing - note reading and technique - in a fun-filled, relaxed environment. Participants must be students in ACPS schools.

    Instruments will be provided for the students. Performances by area professionals will be provided for the students. Transportation to and from school is available. Breakfast and lunch is provided.

    TRANSITION TO ALGEBRA

    Dates: July 10-28, 2017
    Times: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Location: Francis C. Hammond Middle School
    Who may attend: Targeted for students exiting 7th grade with low course grade and/or below 400 on 7th Math SOL, breakfast and lunch are served for all students.

    SUMMER THEATRE SCHOOL (CAMP)

    Come join our talented company as we explore Acting on Camera, Improvisation, Clowning, and Stage Combat. Students will learn how to become more spontaneous performers by studying improvisational technique. They will develop comedic skills through audience interaction and workshops on basic stage combat. The program will also feature a unit on acting for the camera and an invited audience final performance.

    The Title I Primary Preparatory Program is designed to prepare rising first and second grade students (those who will complete kindergarten and first grade in June, 2017), who attend Title I schools, for the rigors of the upcoming school year. Engaging learning experiences will be centered on foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
